The Calendar

Some great thinkers have wondered about the precise turning of the seasons of the world, with the general consensus being that the gods have simply decreed that things run in an orderly fashion. In any case, most are glad to have a certainty in their understanding of how the year unfolds and do not concern themselves overly with the reasons behind the phases of the moon.

Each season of the year, progressing through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, lasts for four progressions through the phases of the moon, with each moon’s change lasting twenty-five days. This leads to a year of strange and beautiful symmetry, with a perfect four hundred risings and fallings of the sun coinciding with the moon waxing and waning sixteen times.
